New Album Sneak Preview!

Dearly Beloved

Hawk vs Pigeon

There’s usually nothing to look forward to in a new year. That sounds pessimistic, but let’s think about it. The holidays are over, you’re broke, fatter, Valentine’s Day and its reminder of your loneliness is the next event on the calendar and as Canadians we still have at least a couple of months left of bitter cold and snow.

Not next year! Early 2012 brings Hawk vs Pigeon, the much anticipated album from Dearly Beloved, recorded at Rancho de La Luna in California. The band spent five days in summer 2010 at the studio ranch, owned by Eagles of Death Metal’s Dave Catching, laying down tracks to take home and nurture in bassist/vocalist Rob Higgins’ home studio on Phoebe Street.

So far, two songs; ‘Word Series of Fedoras‘ and ‘Trash‘ have been released on Dearly Beloved’s Bandcamp page. Things are already looking promising; both tracks were picked up and featured on the Sept 1st episode of Toronto cop drama Rookie Blue (both tracks appear “on the radio” in separate car scenes).

If anything can be gathered from these two samples, it’s that the desert will make itself heard on the album. These tracks are slower and more atmospheric than the rapidfire back-and-forths we’ve become accustomed to on They Will Take Up Serpents, Repo Repo Repo and You Are The Jaguar. Though slowed down, there is no intensity lost. ‘World Series of Fedoras’ in particular, feels like an elastic being slowly stretched to its limits.

Check out Bandcamp to hear the new tracks and preorder Hawk vs Pigeon!
